what to do about no choice

Insideschools.org has a great article on what to do when your 8th grader has not recieved a high school placement. The DOE is holding a Supplementary Round Fair on 4/22 and the new applications are due on 4/29, but you should be contacting programs from the second round list now and trying to visit them.

If you are the parent of an incoming 7th or 8th grader and you want to prepare for the search ahead, I am scheduling free Public High School Choice talks in June. This is particularly important information for private and parochial school parents. You need to email me with your RSVP and tell me which evening you will attend:

June 16, Wednesday 6:30pm - 7:30pm
Carroll Gardens Library Auditorium
396 Clinton St. @ Union

June 22, Tuesday 6:30pm - 7:30pm
Cadman Plaza Library Auditorium (Brooklyn Heights)
280 Cadman Plaza West @ Tillary

I am also scheduling the High School Shortlist Workshops. The workshop is 2 hours. You bring the big DOE Directory and come away with a manageable folder of your "short list" schools to tour. The first one is in late June and they fill up fast. These talks are geared for Brooklyn parents. Manhattan parents should contact me for a possible downtown date in the fall.

I recommend that you attend the library talks as preparation for the Shortlist Workshop.
