Private Preschool (and Elementary) Seats and Open Houses

Blue School in South St. Seaport Open Houses will be held for 2's - 5th grade on 11/12, 6-7:30. Open House for MS 11/29 6-7:30

Bridging Gaps Playschool is a unique program, designed to bridge the gap between home and school for 2s and 3s for the 2014-15 school year. It is a first school experience to help children transition to preschool. For more information, go to www.bridginggapsplaygroup.com or call 347-563-5820.

The German School of Brooklyn, the first German school in NYC, is opening this fall with k-2nd grade near Grand Army Plaza. They are holding open houses and taking applications now for next year.

International School of Brooklyn is an independent, Nursery-8th grade language immersion school (Spanish and French) - International Baccalaureate curriculum. Located in Carroll Gardens,

Lefferts Gardens Montessori started a mixed age program for ages 5 - 10. There are spots available for this year and admissions are open for next year. For more information, check here.

Montessori Day School Prospect Heights, is currently accepting applications for four-year-olds* those who will turn four by December 31 children for the 2014-15 school year . Please see the web site, montessoridayschool.org and email tamika@montessoridayschool.org.

Park Slope Schoolhouse has a few spots in their 3's class (children must be 3 as of Sept. 1st. Contact Ashley Davis for more info. Tours for next year will begin in November. You can sign up on the website for a tour.

Public Elementary Schools

Several schools in D15 in Windsor Terrace/Kensington/Sunset Park are being rezoned (154, 130, 230, 131). Here is the DoE's proposal.

Application process (Kindergarten Connect) won't be out until January.
Prek is even LATER. **None of the dates are posted and they won't be for months, so keep your pants on. You can tour schools now so you know how to rank them later.

Gifted & Talented

The RFT (request for testing) is live for sign up.
Deadline to sign up is 11/7/14. Don't wait to sign up! It is not first come first served, but since I seem to always be late with newsletters this year, I may not be able to warn you about it next month.

PS 8: 12/3, 1/14, 3/4 from 9 - 11am.

PS 9: 10/24, 11/21, 12/12, 1/16, 2/27, 3/20, 5/1. All tours begin at 9am. Sign up for a tour

PS 11: 11/7, 12/11, 1/9, 1/27. All tours are 8:45-10:30am. Sign up for a tour.

Hellenic Classical Charter School: 12/4 @ 6pm, 2/5 @ 6pm, 3/7 @ 10am.

Inside Schools picks: Not the Usual Suspects

MS 51 in D15 has just changed their admissions threshold:
the total number of points needed in the four core subjects is 12, not 13. A child with all 3's will qualify. So would a child with two 3's, a 2 and a 4. This is just for the initial round of screening. If your child qualifies based on those four subject grades, and you have listed MS 51 #1 or #2 on your application, MS 51 will then request your child's 4th and 5th grade report cards, and that will determine admissions. Still no interviews.
