All dates, deadlines, times and places need to be confirmed with the sponsoring organization or school. This newsletter is a listing of interesting sounding programs that come across my desk. It is not necessarily an endorsement of the programs. All listings are unpaid.

Feb. 13 Kindergarten enrollment application deadline
Early April placement offers distributed
Late April pre-registration
▪ If you want email updates from the DoE about Kindergarten admissions, PreK admissions, G&T, Charter Schools, late breaking news, subscribe to the DoE's email alerts here.
▪ WNYC is sending weekly email blasts for kindergarten application season. Subscribe here.
All children with 2010 birthdays should apply for Kindergarten. The DoE is very strict about age cut offs. Don't assume that if your child has a fall birthday that you can delay kindergarten entry. If you remain in prek for the 2015 school year, you will be placed in first grade in 2016.
▪ The public Prek application is even LATER. None of the dates are posted and they won't be for months, so keep your pants on. You can tour schools now so you know how to rank them later.
I am doing my best to be comprehensive, but you should ALWAYS double check the tour dates and times with the schools, in case there are changes.
Many schools have new websites or don't have the SEO to show up in a google search. To find their info, go on the school page for each at insideschools.org and they link to the schools websites. While you are there, watch the video, "What to look for in a school".
Schools and Parent Coordinators: I am happy to list your tours! Please get me the information for the Jan. newsletter.

▪ The Opposite of Spoiled by Ron Lieber, "practical tips for turning conversations about money into lessons." Pre-order the book and Donors Choose will give you $27 and fund your favorite classroom project.
▪ THE TEST: Why Our Schools Are Obsessed With Standardized Testing, But You Don't Have To Be by Anya Kamenetz
