Good YouTube Specialized High School information: prepping and reviews

Now that I have a Youtube channel, and refreshing my feed every 5 minutes. I am also seeing other people’s interesting information. I thought I would give you a little survey of some worthwhile clips to view, particularly if you are doing your own SHSAT prep.

“Hack the SHSAT” Tyler gives a concise explanation of scoring strategy, that I describe as “working smarter rather than harder” in my HS talk. You can read more from the old but accurate NY Time story “Scoring Quirk Throws Balance Into Question

Tyler has a ton of other videos on his channel including speed runs of the test. Info on verbal as well as math.

Tariq Tutoring “Math Strategies and Shortcuts” is long, but open the description and he lays it out clearing with chapters so you can cut to the chase.

Reading Comprehension strategies

How to Practice for the SHSAT and TACHS test at the same time I like Caddwell Prep’s pragmatic strategies.

Some of these videos are promotional, and some are just teenage nonsense, but I think that gives a really good idea of the tone of the school. They are not polished and there may not be a ton of actual content, but they can enlightening.

Reviews of Brooklyn Tech: Brkly Tech Virtual Tour, Kweller Prep’s tour of Tech, Why Tech?, a day in the life (very normal teen age nonsense)

Stuyvesant: virtual tour, I love the couple of Stuy media videos because they give you a sense of the community there. Students react to assumptions about Stuy, teachers answer students’ questions, Are you smarter than a 5th grader?

Bronx Science: a look into Bronx Science, what makes Bronx Science worth the trip?, Bronx Science tour, a day in the life

MSE at City College: Kweller tours MSE,

Queens HS for the Sciences: Kent NYC review,

Staten Island Tech: Kent NYC review,
